Butterflies N Effect is looking for creative adults who are ready to pour into the next generation!
We are a FREE hybrid leadership and mentoring program serving youth in grades 7–12, and this year we’re expanding our Butterfly Mentoring Labs to give our young people opportunities to connect with people who are actually DOING the things they’re interested in.
We’re looking for:

🎶 Musicians & Vocalists

🎹 Producers & Beat Makers
🎨 Visual Artists
💃🏽 Dancers & Performing Artists

📖 Storytellers
✨ And other creative professionals!
Our Butterfly Mentoring Labs meet virtually on Thursdays, making it possible for creatives both inside AND outside of Chicago to connect with our youth.
And here's the important part: you don't have to commit to every Thursday. 🦋
Maybe you can lead one session. Maybe you can demonstrate your craft. Maybe you can talk about how you turned your talent into a career. Maybe you can help a young person write their first poem, develop a song, create a piece of art, find their voice, or simply see a possibility for themselves that they hadn't seen before.
Sometimes ONE conversation with the right mentor can change the direction of a young person's life.
Ideal Candidate:
✅ Experienced or aspiring educator with a passion for the Arts
✅ Creative, reliable, and engaging virtual presenter
✅ Comfortable teaching students in grades 7–12
✅ Able to commit to Thursdays from 5–6 PM CST, September through May
Time Commitment:
- 1 hour/week on Thursdays
- September–May (breaks for winter & spring)

Job Descriptions
Program Director
The Program Director annually creates, reviews, and adjusts programs. They also market them, and ensures they meet the association's bylaws and strategic planning process. Works with Mentorship Director to organize mentoring activities, create pairings of mentors/mentees, and evaluate program satisfaction.
Grant Writing Director
The Grant Writing Director discovers grant opportunities and maintains relationships with funders and donors. They research deadlines, draft grant requests, and submit reports
Marketing and Communication Director
The Marketing and Communication Director leads a team to oversee a consistent and active communication strategy for recruitment, program messaging, fundraising, and awareness. They engage in fundraising and promote the organization’s image and public standing.
Strategic Planning Director
The Strategic Planning Director works with the Officers and Board to develop a strategic plan that ensures BNE’s vision and mission are achieved. BNE’s vision and mission have also been achieved. They oversee the annual evaluation process, provide updates to the Board, and manage the strategic planning exercise.
Mental Health Specialists
Butterflies N Effect is seeking dedicated Mental Health Specialists to develop and lead engaging curricula for youth aged 10-16. The commitment is 30-40 minutes on Tuesdays and Thursday evenings. This role offers a meaningful opportunity to positively impact the mental well-being of inner-city youth.
Behavior Specialists
Butterflies N Effect is seeking dedicated Behavior Specialists to develop and lead engaging curricula for youth aged 10-16. The commitment is 30-40 minutes on Tuesdays and Thursday evenings. This role offers a meaningful opportunity to positively impact the mental well-being of inner-city youth.
Mentorship
Butterflies N Effect is seeking enthusiastic professionals to mentor youth aged 10-16. As a mentor, you'll dedicate 30-40 minutes on Thursday evenings to engage with participants, sharing your experiences and knowledge. Responsibilities include creating simple slide presentations and fostering interactive discussions to inspire and guide our youth. This is a rewarding opportunity to make a meaningful impact in the lives of inner-city children.
